Dr. Kimberly's Favorite Watermelon Electrolyte Drink Recipe 🍉

Blog Post Graphic-25

With the scorching summer heat in full swing, it's essential to stay hydrated and keep our electrolyte levels balanced. Today I want to share a simple, delicious, and hydrating recipe that's perfect for these hot days: Watermelon Electrolyte Drink.

Why Watermelon?

Watermelon is not only a delightful summer fruit but also a powerhouse of hydration and nutrients. It's about 92% water, making it an excellent choice for staying hydrated. Additionally, watermelon acts as a natural diuretic, helping to reduce water retention and swelling. It's packed with vitamins A, B-6, C, and antioxidants, which support overall health. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, watermelon is known for its cooling properties, helping to reduce body heat.

Why Electrolytes?

Most of my 55 and up patients are dehydrated. Symptoms of dehydration include:

  • Constipation
  • Kidney Stones
  • Urinary Tract Infection
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness and Confusion
  • Joint Pain
  • Increased Heart Rate
  • Headaches
  • Poor Digestion

Watermelon Electrolyte Drink Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of watermelon, cubed and seeded
  • 1/2 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons of honey (optional)
  • 2 cups of cold water
  • Ice cubes
  • A pinch of pink Himalayan sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Blend the watermelon until smooth.
  2. Strain the puree into a pitcher to remove any pulp or seeds.
  3. Add the lemon juice, honey (if using), and cold water. Stir well.
  4. Add a pinch of pink Himalayan sea salt and stir to dissolve.
  5. Serve over ice and enjoy!

This refreshing drink is not only hydrating, but also packed with essential electrolytes to keep you energized and cool during these hot summer days.

Give it a try and let me know what you think in the comments below. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and enjoy the benefits of watermelon!

"Cool regards"–-because it's too damn hot to give warm regards! (PUN intended! ☀️😎)
